Edwardian Sterlings

Valeran of Ligny, 1304-1353 and 1364-1366, Serain

Coat of arms of Valéran II of Ligny.

Valéran II of Ligny (1275-1354) or Valéran II of Luxembourg, was a son of Valéran I of Ligny and Joanna of Beauvoir. He was lord of Beauvoir, Roussy and Ligny from the House of Luxembourg.
Walram initially inherited from his mother the castles of Beauvoir and Roussy and after the death of his brother Henry (1303), he also received his father's legacy Ligny.
He succeeded his father in 1288 as Count of Ligny. After his death he was buried in the church of Notre-Dame in Cambrai.
Valéran married Guyotte, Lady of Lille, and became father of 4 children.

Extra info:Not mentioned in Mayhew, 2 examples known to me. On 30/11/2014 a 2nd example showed up on Delcampe.net, which looks like a die-duplicate to me. With this coin it is now possible to read the complete legend. Here are some better pictures of the coin, now in a private collection.
